
I have just moved to Switzerland, what steps must I take?
Upon your arrival in Switzerland you are required by law to obtain health insurance against illness within 3 months of taking up residence.
Please note: there are certain exceptions from this obligation, especially under the bilateral agreements concluded between Switzerland and the European Union (EU) where you must be insured in the country from which your income originates. The frequently encountered situations under these provisions are as follows:
Where must I take out insurance if I only receive income* from an EU country?
You and your dependent family members are covered by the social security system of that country. Contact the local authority where you live in Switzerland to obtain a dispensation from compulsory Swiss insurance.
However, you can, if you so wish, take out supplemental insurances !
Where must I be insured if I receive income* from one or more EU countries and also income* from Switzerland?
You and your dependent family members must have health insurance in Switzerland.
