Cover my dental care

Dental and orthodontic care for adults and children: what basic health insurance reimburses… and what it doesn’t

Basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG) only provides reimbursement for dental treatment rendered necessary by a serious illness or an accident.

There is no provision under LAMal/KVG for the reimbursement of routine dental care. So you have to pay for the following treatments yourself:

  • treatment of decay
  • annual checkups
  • scaling
  • routine dental problems
  • orthodontic treatment (imaging, braces, teeth and jaw straightening)
  • implants
  • root canal treatment
  • crowns
  • etc.

If you wish to have these treatments reimbursed, you need to take out supplemental insurance.

So, which supplemental insurance should I choose?

We have two options in our supplemental insurance range. Both solutions provide coverage for dental care.

Individual Global Solution is a combined supplemental insurance solution. It includes coverage for hospitalisation and outpatient care, as well as dental care.

“Dentaire plus” is specifically designed to cover dental care. This supplemental insurance offers four levels of coverage. For example, level 0 is called Dentaire plus-Kids. It provides up to 75% cover for children’s orthodontic treatment, up to a maximum limit of CHF 15,000 per year.

The option you choose will depend on your needs. Identify your requirements, explore these products and select the solution that’s right for you.
