Private pension provision: an essential pillar of your future

Although health insurance is essential for covering your healthcare costs in Switzerland, pension provision is just as important for protecting your family and planning for your future.

The Swiss system is based on three pillars:
1. state pension provision,
2. occupational pension provision, and
3. private pension provision

The third pillar enables you to supplement your cover through personal savings. With Groupe Mutuel’s pension solutions, you can plan for your retirement, secure the future of your relatives and build your future with peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Anyone moving to Switzerland must take out basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG), regardless of their age or nationality. This requirement applies individually to every member of the family, including children.

Basic health insurance ensures access to essential medical care and offers the same benefits across all recognised insurers in Switzerland.

Yes. You are free to choose the basic health insurer that suits you best from among all authorised insurers in Switzerland. No insurer may refuse to enrol you in basic health insurance on the grounds of your age, state of health or medical history.

You have three months from the date you take up residence in Switzerland to take out basic health insurance.

If you meet this deadline, your cover is generally granted retroactively from your date of arrival, and any medical costs incurred during this period may be covered. However, insurance premiums remain payable from the date on which the obligation to take out insurance begins.

If you do not register within the legal time limit, the cantonal authorities may automatically sign you up with a health insurer. You will then lose the option to choose your own health insurance provider and insurance plan.

Depending on your circumstances, late registration may also result in a premium supplement or other administrative consequences.
